Sort of off topic question here - I named my pet a long time ago - is there a way to check to see if it has evolved to hearty, elder, etc. ??? It is level 15 now and I thought it should of changed by now...
Thanks!

just type '/petname' and leave the rest blank. This will reset the name to default. After this you can '/petname name here' to rename your pet.

Fact: Any pet other than Moa Birds and Crabs fail. Hard. Black Moa birds fail slightly less than all other pets, but if you want to be cool, get a REAL Moa, or a Crab.
Coolness Chart of pets
Dire Crab
Dire Moa Bird
Elder Crab
Elder Moa Bird
Hearty Crab
Hearty Moa Bird
Black Moa (EMO-a)
All other dire pets
All other elder pets
All other hearty pets
FACT
EDIT: I forgot to mention the work-around. If you have a pet other than the cool ones, simply name it "Dire Crab" (if you're too lazy to type it, copy and paste the following: "/petname Dire Crab" without the quotes). This simple action can gain you several cool points.
EDIT2: Red Crabs > Blue Crabs
EDIT3: Red Dire Crab with MAAGIK HAAT > All

actually red crabs are earlier in the game, and they look cooked so blues are cooler
humorously enough I train a new pet about every other week depending on how busy I am at work and my mood though, currently its a dire snow wolf

May I ask why you think Moa birds and crabs are so cool?

I my opinion the only "cool" pet are the one who are used for combat, rather than looking good, like my ranger is currently raising a whit tiger because I like playing beastmaster builds.
Coolness:
Beastmasters
B/P team builds
IWAY builds ( i guess)
You like animals
raising your own pet
Finding a pre lvl 20 pet without paying 20K for it
Lameness:
Looking good (e.g having a spider cause it makes u look like a pro)
paying someone to get you to a pre lvl 20 pet

Coolness:
Having an all guild group volunteer to go down to the underworld with you because you want the spider. Coolness factor = off the chizang!

coolness is there only if you know how to use your pet

Bah, 2.4 mill experience on my Ranger.
I've only ever had one pet.
My Pre-Sear Melandrues Stalker.
Whenever I do ToPK "Fur Ball" last longer than all the other pets.
I could really careless about "coolness" and agree fully with Maria

I just like the sounds the crabs and moas make the best, thats the 'cool' part. When I go all beast mastery or b/p are the only times I use him though. With regards to topk though, there you WANT your pet to die, just like iway so actually it doesn't matter what evolution you have, but generally hearty works best there just for walling. But no dead pet=no extra minions. There is a counter argument of course that if your pet's not dead its still a wall, but the minions do deal far more damage.

imo the evolution level that gets my respect is the dire level.
training to get a pet from level 3-5 to dire takes time and a very strict training excercise. in addition the only pet that u can cap as a dire is the black widow in uw.
i really love my original dire Moa (not the black moa). the only time im giving up my moa for a new pet is when i see some type of monkey/ape pet *crosses fingers for nightfall*.

My Dire Tiger is only lvl 17, but I still own in AB using my beastmaster build. And extra funniness watching people get owned by a lvl 17 pet, LOL

Dire Pheonix ftw! took me 4 tries but I got it. I only chose pheonix because it's the only 'end game pet' that you have to level up yourself (if you consider spiders end game). I almost like the white tiger better too, but the pheonix goes nicely with my kuunavang.
anyway, almost all pets are the same, there are the minor differences (peircing dmg on the spider and ?lizard?) so it doesn't really matter. Any beastmaster using the pet for damage wants Dire, for b/p you might was dire or just a lvl 5 so they die faster and for tanking you want Hearty. I really don't see the big deal over Elder.
